Strange Questions!

Sun, Aug 24, 2008

Here are some questions you may not be able to answer at all! :D

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is  wet?

If the temperature is zero outside today and it’s going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold will it be?

:)

Did you ever stop and wonder……

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, “I think I’ll squeeze these pink dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?”

Who  was the first person to say, “See that chicken there… I’m gonna eat the next thing that comes outta its bum.”

Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but  don’t point to  their bum when they ask where the bathroom  is?

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?

I hope these brought a smile on your face :)

Edit Any Page In Your Browser!

Sat, Aug 2, 2008

Have a close look at this picture:

Ever wanted to scare a friend by editing a page on the CNN website? Ever wanted to know how people talk about a 24$ AdSense click?

You can edit everything from your browser itself (tested in IE 7 and FF3)

There are two methods, both work:

  • Using a code:

javascript:document.body.contentEditable='true'; document.designMode='on'; void 0

Just enter the above code into your address bar (the one where you type www.letssermo.com in) and the page you are on will go into ‘edit mode’.

  • Click the link below, it will perform the same function as the code. If you wish, drag the link to your bookmarks column.

Traffic Building

Fri, Aug 1, 2008

One of the first priorities of  web master’s it to generate traffic to their websites. Traffic is what generates more traffic and revenue.

Only targeted traffic is what matters, thus buying traffic is futile. Discussed below are ways to generate targeted traffic easily:

  • Search Engines

Traffic from search engines depends on your content and the SEO work done on a website. Search Engine Results Page (SERP) keeps fluctuating. Thus the traffic from here can range from 10’s to 1000’s.

  • Promotion

In this method you may have to spend some money. Their are several ways of promotion. This type of traffic is mostly targeted.

There are various options like: AdWords, Advertising on sites of the same niche……

One method i have tried on one my sites is a Stumble Upon Advertising, via this method i got targeted visitors to one of my pages. They liked the page and in turn ’stumbled’ it. This way the page was ’stumbled’ many times and since a week it has been receiving an average of 100 visitors per day. The peak being 240 visitors in a day. My investment was only 6$ :)

Un-targeted Promotion:

  • Forums are a nice option to get traffic but these visitors are generally there to review your site etc.
  • Commenting on other blogs / Guest posts are a nice way to generate traffic.
  • If you can make a video that will attract some attention and post it on YouTube with a link to your site you could get some good number of visitors to your site.
  • If you have skills like PHP etc. create a Firefox add-on and link your site as the homepage.
  • Quality Content

Quality content (must be unique) is by far the best method for ranking well in search engines, social media etc. Content is what will bring visitors to your site. It is a leading factor in getting visitors as these sites spread through word of mouth too.

Let me know if you have tips that i can add here :)

Get Quality Backlinks in 30 Minutes!

Wed, Jul 30, 2008

Link Building is done for two main reasons, for traffic and for search engines. Search engines take links as votes for a website. The more the links to a page, the more a search engine values it. Getting back links are not easy but here are some tips that will prove helpful.

  • Commenting on ‘Do-follow’ blogs

Not every comment of yours on a blog counts , as most blogs use ‘No Follow’. These no follow links carry no value to your blog.

But ‘Do Follow’ blogs are blogs without the ‘No Follow’. These links carry value and prove beneficial.

A common question : How do I find ‘Do Follow’ blogs?

There are search engines that refine their results to only ‘Do Follow’ blogs such as Do Follow Diver.

  • Forum Signature Links

Forums have a signature link space that accompanies your posts. Many forums have ‘Do Follow: signature links.

  • Link Directories

Directory submission is a very popular method in which you submit your links to various directories. These will give you no traffic but will count as a link.

  • Article Directories

In this method You write articles and post them on article sites. The articles contain backlinks to your site. You get a few visitors through this.

  • Press Release

The title says it all. You write an something about your new website and post it on press release websites.

  • Galleries

If you have a very well designed website submit it to website galleries. These will bring one-time visitors as they may not be interested in your content.

  • Link Exchange

Make sure to exchange links with websites of your niche as these help in terms of traffic and search engines. Always keep a link exchange page on your website.

There are some links which do not help at all in case of search engines but they do get you some good visitors such as:

  • Yahoo Answers- Write answers relating to your websites niche, and put your site as the source. You will get about 10 visitors on an average.
  • Wikipedia- Have a really popular website?  Create an article on wikipedia. It will get visitors as it may turn up as a random article.
  • Social Bookmarking: Submit to websites like Digg and Stumble Upon. If your article is ’stumbled’ or dugg’ you will get traffic in return. This method can get you hundreds of visits.

Leave a comment here and you will get a backlink :)
